5 Creative Ways to Get Your Partner’s Wedding Ring Size

If you are in a committed relationship and are getting close to popping the big question, you are going to need one very valuable piece of information – a ring size.
Of course, you can always get the ring resized afterward, but to make the moment as special as possible, try to find your partner’s size beforehand. Keep in mind that depending on the type of ring you purchase, resizing may or may not be possible.
An eternity band with gems or an intricate design all the way around cannot be resized. If you do decide to propose with an eternity band or engagement ring with detailed design patterns, getting your partner’s size prior will prevent you from shelling out for two rings.
Here are five creative ways to help you figure out that ring size.
Pick up the Phone
Calling the in-laws could be a good bet if they like to buy jewelry for your significant other now and then. And chances are, your loved one might have dropped some very good hints about a preferred ring style in addition to a ring size. His or her closest friends may also have the answer. If you’re not the outgoing type, it may feel a bit awkward, but it’s a phone call worth making. Just make sure that whoever you call can keep a good secret.
Be Coy
Ask a question here and there about why you need a ring size. There are ways you can ask without sounding like you’ll pop the question right away. Make dinner reservations, then offer to go shopping with her while you wait and let her pick out a sparkly, cubic zirconia costume ring from a department or discount store, just for the sake of an interesting date night. Make a note of whether that size fits perfectly or is just a little too loose. Part two is to just have a good steak and class of wine. (You’ll have a lot of fun pretending you’re rich for the night.) Extra points for discretion if you do this on a little anniversary, such as the day you met, first kissed, etc.
Make it about Someone Else
Maybe you need a gift for your Mom, sibling, or cousin, and feel like buying a ring featuring said relative’s birthstone. Take your partner out shopping and ask him or her to try on prospective gifts, just to see how they might look of, of course.
Go Hunting
Now I don’t recommend putting on a ski mask and rummaging through things in the dark, but search your loved one’s jewelry box for favorite rings, and trace it onto a piece of paper. You can also imprint the ring into a piece of clay, which will give your jeweler a more accurate size.
Order a Kit
While you’re on the couch one night, casually pull out an innocent ring sizing kit and play around with it. Say that you found in the break room at work. “Oh, I’m a ten,” you might say. Then hand it over and watch as your significant other does all the work for you, concerning the mystery ring size. Note the number mentally, then smile and get back to your movie or TV show.
